Back Pain Relief & Treatment in Los Angeles

SpineJet™ is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure used to treat patients suffering from a herniated disc, also known as a slipped disc. It is an alternative to invasive discectomy surgery and is an effective pain treatment option for patients who have not experienced sufficient pain reduction or increased mobility through the use of conservative treatments, including physical therapy, medication, and / or localized injections such as epidurals.

Benefits of Treating Pain with SpineJet™

The most notable benefits of the SpineJet™ treatment in comparison to tradition discectomy surgery include:

  • Outpatient procedure requiring no hospitalization
  • Minimally invasive
  • No general anesthesia, muscle trauma, bone removal or nerve root contact
  • 20 – 30 minute procedure – less than half the time of a discectomy surgery
  • Walk out post-op as opposed to supervised recovery period
  • Band-Aid closure as opposed to sutured closure
  • Approximately 4 mm wound size with virtually no scar
  • One week recovery as compared to a 6 – 8 week recovery for discectomy surgery.

The HydroDisectomy Procedure

The SpineJet™ procedure, or hydrodisectomy, is a 20 – 30 minute outpatient procedure that allows patients to leave the same day. It works by using a high-speed water stream to remove herniated disc tissue, which in turn reduces pressure on the nerves and relieves pain.

SpineJet™ is safe and efficient, and generates as much power as laser and radio frequency technologies without causing heat damage to surrounding tissues and structures in the spine. As incisions are very small and because SpineJet™ is inserted into the disc by expanding the fibers of the disc’s outer wall, it is far less invasive than discectomy surgery and much less traumatic.

Recovery Time and Results

While recovery time can vary depending on a number of unique circumstances, including your health and condition, patients are generally able to recover from the procedure in a week, which is substantially less than the six to eight weeks of recovery needed for traditional surgery. As always, however, you should consult your physician prior to engaging in any serious activities.

As opposed to surgical discectomy procedures, SpineJet™ uses a safe stream of water to “wash away back pain,” thereby allowing patients to avoid the risks associated with the use of lasers and other heating elements that can potentially damage surrounding tissues, nerves, or muscles. As there is also no bone removal and no need for sutures or stitches, SpineJet™ offers pain sufferers a revolutionary way to treat pain without the substantial risks of surgery or the need for lengthy recovery.

SpineJet™ is clinically proven to treat patients suffering from a herniated disc. In fact, clinical research has provided significant scientific evidence supporting the value of hydrodisectomy as a highly effective, safe, and minimally invasive herniated disc treatment. One prominent study published in the January 2013 edition of The Internet Spine Journal reported a 94% improvement in back and leg pain for 50 SpineJet™ patients. Another study in which 69 patients used SpineJet™ to treat a herniated disc reported that 98% of patients attained excellent or good results. Such marked results serve to solidify the fact that there is no better time for those suffering from pain caused by a herniated disc to find relief.

Determining Whether SpineJet™ is Right for You

At the Nuvo Spine clinics, we provide each new patient with a multidisciplinary evaluation that includes a comprehensive physical assessment and an in-depth pain profile. We use these evaluations, as well as the results of any additional specialized tests that may be ordered, to fully determine and diagnose your underlying cause of pain and all of your available treatment options. Whether or not SpineJet™ is right for you will depend heavily on many different personal factors, particularly the results you have received treating your pain with other more conservative methods.

If you have a herniated disc and your pain has not been substantially alleviated using non-surgical treatment, your symptoms are worsening, you have signs of nerve damage in your leg, and you do not have other spine conditions, then SpineJet™ may be a viable treatment. Our Los Angeles back pain relief doctor can provide you with more information about SpineJet™ and other treatment options. If you would like to learn more about SpineJet™, or if you would like to schedule an evaluation, contact Nuvo Spine today.
